Until the end of the year, Intel intends to release a 28-core desktop processor for powerful HEDT-systems. A new platform for the chip is also expected. And now there was fresh data on this matter. The newest processor will run on the X599 platform, which is promised to support up to 12 DDR4 DIMMs in a 6-channel configuration. To install the processor, the motherboard will receive a socket LGA 3647.
From what is known, the processor will receive a heat pack at 250 watts, and the cost may exceed two thousand dollars. For comparison, the most powerful “blue” processor for today – Core i9-7980XE with 18 cores is 1999 dollars. In general, the novelty will compete with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2900 series, which includes processors with up to 32 cores. More precisely, the price and technical indicators will be known as the official presentation or shortly before it.
