Despite the fact that eSports have already become a multi-million dollar industry of the gaming industry, public opinion about virtual contests remains ambiguous – many still regard eSports with disdain. Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen made a modest contribution to raising the status of such competitions – he spoke at the opening ceremony of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament.

Counter-Strike: The Global Offensive Blast Pro Series started this weekend in Copenhagen. At the crowded stadium “Royal Arena” gathered 12 thousand spectators. As GamesIndustry.biz reports, during his speech, the politician highly appreciated the efforts of cyberbattles.

“You have been training for many years to be here,” Rasmussen said. “And over the years, you probably have often had to convince others that you are not wasting time. Hopefully now the time for conviction is over because you are athletes. You are real athletes following your dream. ”

The competition was broadcast in 17 languages in 120 countries. It was possible to watch the games on television and on the Twitch streaming platform.
